This IS a liberal community, after all. We're going to be biased; most likely in the direction of restricting firearms.

    •  1/4 of all gun owners are Democrats (4+ / 0-)

1/3 of all people own guns, and 1/4 of those people are Democrats:

That's NOT an insignificantly small number whatsoever. It means that of the 200,000,000 guns in the United States, presumably, 5,000,000 are owned by Democrats.

So I wouldn't call that too statistically small. It's not a majority, clearly. But it's nothing to sneeze at. It's twice the population of most of the smaller States on the Eastern Seaboard and about 2/3rds the size of many mid-sized States, to put that in perspective.

People shouldn't be allowed to have the label of "liberal" if they are trying to restrict rights. The whole fucking point of liberalism as a movement was the expansion of rights.

who is, or is not, allowed to claim the label of "liberal". There is no single "fucking point" to the thing. Mercy!

Or, have we ceased to be a fact based community?

It isn't my authority. Perhaps you should take the fight to Merriam Webster.
a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties; specifically : such a philosophy that considers government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (as those involving race, gender, or class)
          Mercy indeed.

And I am on the side of individual Constitutional Rights and 'Liberal' gun laws.

That the Dems are the ones primarily espousing sacrificing liberty for perceived security, in this case isn't primarily an ideological one....it is a regional one.

      ie Rural vs Urban.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.

      •  Perhaps, but it shouldn't be so. (0+ / 0-)

I take an "urban" approach to the argument, despite living in a borderline area. Why should there be any difference?

one is surrounded by people with guns, and gun violence is exceedingly rare.
In an urban area, one is less likely to have any experience with firearms except for hearing about tragedies on the news.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
