perhaps because it is attractive to people who don't see well. Whether they are actually or metaphorically blind, it is likely that there is a correlation between the 30% of American adults who have been determined by studies to be functionally illiterate and the people who tune into FOX TV--radio with pictures. The audience wants to be told stories. It doesn't really matter whether the stories are true because, by and large, if they are lacking insight, or the ability to compare various inputs, accuracy is outside their purview.

Or, let me put it another way. If a person sits in a temperature controlled environment, he doesn't notice or care what the external environmental condition is. If a person can't SEE, he doesn't care what's to be seen.

Do some people suffer from sensory deprivations other than the obvious ones?  I suspect so.  What senses?

    sense of time
    sense of place
    sense of order
    sense of sequence
    sense of direction
    sense of distance
    sense of circumstance
    sense of connection
    sense of rhythm

I even suspect that these sensory deficits are somehow connected to the sense of touch. Which would account for the common perception that the clueless are "out of touch."
They cannot properly connect with the material world because their tactile senses are dull or even non-existent.
