    the Democrats.

    They support Reaganomics including free trade, support highly concentrated media, don't advocate hasty major action on climate change, and they support reductions in the social safety net.

    These kinds of things are what are considered reasonable conservatism in the United States.

    What we need for a healthy democracy is a liberal party, one that supports protecting our domestic economy, preventing extreme concentration of ownership of business, finance and media markets, one that advocates acting on climate change to the degree indicated necessary by science, and would restore the social safety net.

      I do completely agree that the Democratic Party is too far to the right.  But I am at least as much a pragmatist as I am a zealot and I would welcome a split in American politics with a viable Democratic Party where it is today and a reasonable body of people somewhere to the right of it.

      Someday soon Republicans are going to drown Grover Norquist - in a bathtub.
