This isn't N-dimensional chess.  It is Obama refusing to acknowledge that there is no point in negotiating with Boehner because Boehner can't deliver the votes for any compromise he makes.

Obama can't negotiate with McConnell either, because McConnell is up for re-election and will refuse to take any action that will lead to a primary challenge.  That is funny because he certainly will get a challenge just because he IS a congressional leader and the teabaggers hate the GOP leadership.

So we have a President who won't play a strong hand, a GOP that can't play the game.

Suppose that by some miracle the President and Boehner do get a deal passed by the House.  Then it goes to the Senate, where Rand Paul can block it forever just by waving his finger in the air.

God help us if we actually need a government in the next four years, because we don't have one.

    A new birth of freedom..

if the idea is to split the Republicans, then the President's actions would be comprehensible. Dangling "compromise" in front of the non-tea party faction, then sitting back and watching the ensuing inner party bloodletting.

Do I think this is the case? Frankly, I don't pretend to know the answer to that question. Unlike many on both sides of the pro/anti Obama divide, I don't imagine that I can say with certainty what the President is up to. I just recognize that both sides have reasons for their views.

Neither side can really "prove" that their view of the President is correct, which renders the argument largely pointless.
