  •  You don't think Hillary (5+ / 0-)

came with baggage -- including the concern that she wasn't up to it?  As for hobbling himself: Obama gets a trusted SoS, and even if we lose the Senate seat, we still have a majority there, and the winner in Mass will be on a short leash with the voters.

It is a nationalized special election that is the problem.  If there was a giant among Democrats or public officials in Massachusetts then no problem.  There is not.  Adelson spent $155 million in 2012 and the Koch spent lots with their buddies - so what will $50-$100 million in Massachusetts do to an election when the other side knows damn well that the process and the outcome will be the tail wagging the dog.

      •  Huh Senator Hillary Clinton wasn't what??? (2+ / 0-)

Hillary being Senator from New York in 2008.  So does Kirsten Gillibrand.  As for Koch: let's see if they really want to pump money twice in a year's time into Massachusetts, especially for the same candidate.

even if he wins a special election 2013.

Even many MA GOPers think Brown would be wise to run for Governor.

If Brown sets his sights on governor, which he might, the race becomes a lot more winnable. If he runs for Senate, it will be a challenge to beat him in a special election.

            •  If the Dems pick the right Candidate and if that (0+ / 0-)

candidate isn't Martha Coakley nor pulls a Coakley taking 20 days vacations off.

I think we will be good to keep the seat even in a Special election.

Either way, I plan the volunteer to help the nominee, instead of bitching and whining on how unbeatable Brown is.

He's not "unbeatable" and nobody's saying he is. At least I'm not. I do think he'll be tougher to beat than you're giving him credit for, at least in another special election.

If Brown runs for governor instead, which he might, the Senate seat becomes easier to hold. If he runs for Senate it's a challenge.

        •  she in effect gave up the seat to run for (0+ / 0-)

President.    There was no harm done.  Think Governor Brewer.  Who made that possible?

        •  Last special election in Mass was not too helpful (0+ / 0-)
