about the current state of Massachusetts politics. Brown remains the darling of the GOP and independents, who together are more than 60% of the electorate. In November we had massive Democratic and urban turnout, which is normal for a Presidential year, and virtually impossible in any other circumstance, particularly a special election not held in November. It will be no cakewalk.

Republicans...think the American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire the Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it. Harry S. Truman

This will be Browns race to lose.

Most people don't realize that the state has only had one D Gov since 1990.

Brown is beloved in my part of the state (Blackstone Valley)

would be easier to hold than Governor. The national GOP is too far right for many moderate Mass. voters who are tempted to vote R for Governor to balance the 80-90% Dem majorities on Beacon Hill. Brown, in another special election, is the only time I'd really be concerned about holding the Senate seat.

And the ramifications are huge for the nation. If he does win, they'll call it a repudiation of the Democrats. Because, you know, we're "ultra-blue" Massachusetts or some such. People who think that should spend a week in the Blackstone Valley or near Plymouth.
