    you can get the first person he shoots at the school is the guard... before he even sees it coming.

      There was some speculation that the timing and entry point of the Columbine shooters was designed to catch the school's armed guard as one of their initial victims. Instead, he was actually just off campus at the time, eating lunch in his car while monitoring students smoking in a park adjacent to the school.  (He fired a number of shots, hitting no one, but probably saving the life of one student victim, then retreated for backup as he was grossly outgunned).

      These sorts of killers are ill, but they are not stupid.  With the amount of preparation that goes into many of these attacks, ambush kills of lone armed guards would not even introduce much additional complexity, and, at worst, would provide them an extra firearm for free.

      The entire proposition is just stupid.  

      My point is that you can argue against LaPierre's proposal in half a dozen different ways, and each argument would boil down to one sentence:  "not going to work as planned."
