right about when all this comes due if this deal goes through anyway.

Look, the reality of the R congress is we're going to have stupid fights on every little thing that keeps the government running.

Going over the cliff still leaves the debt limit and the March budget appropriations on the table for hostage taking.  Adding the Sequester cuts to the mix doesn't really change anything (and keeps them from landing right when everything else happens next week).

Just accept that until the R caucus is broken or removed somehow, nothing useful will get done for this country.  The best you can hope for is no further damage will be done either and the bare minimum will be passed to keep the govt open.

There is a very good chance of a govt shutdown next year, the way things are going.

      I don't.

The cliff dynamic works for the Village and the 1%. This was a phony crisis from the very beginning, much abetted by the president and other grownup dems.

The longer this charade goes on the more we will have to claw back - or give up forever - when/if we get our republic back. Let's have done with it now.

You may be right of course that the Dems don't want what we want either, and that they'll accept things that we'd hate.   I hope it isn't quite as bad as you think but I must admit some of the statements and offers this month make me pretty queasy.

I just don't think the folks starting all these hostage taking fights are really on the same page.  They've failed to take extremely good deals (from the village/1% standpoint) twice already.    All they really seem to be for is no tax increases of any kind ever, and huge, massive cuts to everything (well beyond what the villagers think is "serious")
