iL and I are both worried about is that if a uniformed police officer sees a,kid smoking a join, for example, do they reallY have the discretion to ignore it?  Even if they do, how many would?

My main concern, however, is that this could not be cops,on their days off, there just aren't enough to do that for every school, every day.  I would guess that this would rapidly become outsourced, and it,would mostly be retired cops...bored out of their minds waiting for a possible shooter, day in, day out.

I really think that fairly quickly, the admin and parents would demand that the security guard do more. Just imagine what would happen when a cop ignored a kid smoking a joint, the kid gets caught, and tells everybody that officer X saw me and did nothing.  It would go south very quickly.
