    the "gas" this diary is about is natural gas (methane, mostly), not gasoline.  There's a few vehicles, mostly trucks and buses, that run on natural gas but private cars almost universaly run on gasoline or diesel fuel.  So individuals driving less won't cut the demand for natural gas.  

    Renewable energy brings national global security.

        Fracking would be used to produce both oil and gas in the Monterey formation. That's why big oil has such a large economic incentive to do it.

        As for California's energy consumption, it is about half the national rate, if I remember correctly.

        Fracking has been done in California for many years to increase oil production, but the industrial scale fracking now being applied is now causing damage to properties in the Baldwin Hills where I once lived and went to elementary school.
