I bet it was! Picturing the reaction makes my head hurt.

It can be so painful, to look back at dogma and abuse. I had a friend who went to the University of Utah and did not get her Mrs., and finally decided to get an advanced degree. Her parents were so upset and offended that she had yet to marry a return missionary they refused to talk about her at all. My mother was shocked by that, and we lost track of her pretty quick. You do not conform, you do not exist.

"I grew up Mormon and I AM gay". Old patterns are hard to break. :>)  Lately I've been thinking of my time at BYU. I knew subconsciously that I didn't belong or fit in, but I so wanted to be. Nowadays, I can't even fathom how I could have felt that way as a child and young man.

We are going to my Mom's on Christmas. I have some anxiety because I have had to set my family straight on a number of occasions. For the most part they are cool and barriers have all come down. I have many Mormon friends who know that I am a Gay liberal Democrat who criticizes The Church... que sera sera.

After all is said and done, a lot more is said than done.
