  •  Paul's writings were often forged or changed, (10+ / 0-)

which explains why they sometimes appear bizarre or contradictory. For example, the infamous "wives, be subject to your husbands" text, so misused by fundamentalist preachers, forbidding women to hold positions of authority in the church and over men, was a forgery done under Paul's name. Claiming to be St. Paul gave the forger--and his prejudices--credibility.
Many of the other books of the New Testament also either are forgeries or have had passages or "corrections" inserted later to suit the beliefs of the scribes who copied texts.
Biblical scholars have known this for a long time--it's not exactly news--so if Rick Warren had any halfway decent theological training he knows it too. I suspect that Warren has decided to ignore the evidence so he can keep on insisting that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. Which, of course, gives Warren's own prejudices the appearance of infallibility.
