my mother watched a plane land on the ice and skid into a crowd of people, several injuries, but famous in the day...sometime in the 30's.

In the early 60's there was a 1950 Ford four door sedan that went out on the ice too soon and fell thru and was out there like a stinkbug sculpture all winter.

I learned to sail on the Bay, and fished and caught turtles and all kinds of boy stuff.
We went by there almost every day to the city and back.

A very beautiful spot in it's own way.

I can't imagine that all the neighbors who had to be evacuated under fire and smoke and gunshots even knew this person was living there.

I was on the police scuba squad, and we made several dives to the bottom of the bay when people decided to end it all from the Route 104 bridge.

Through the ice, 75 feet down, absolutely black water with zero visibility, with 3-4 feet of ice above you but for the hole we cut, and the only connection was the down line.  Swim in circles until you bumped into a body. Not a lot of fun, and thinking back on it now, I must have been out of my mind to even attempt it...

There have been several vehicles and snowmobiles go through the ice over the years - both Irondequoit and Braddocks Bays are famous for people getting liquored up and deciding to take a shortcut.
