  •  When I was a kid, my class was mostly Jewish, and (5+ / 0-)

the rest mostly Catholic Italians. We Jewish kids thought it was absolutely hilarious when the Catholic kids talked about Santa coming.

      •  Hopefully I'll be able to spare my kids (0+ / 0-)

the surprise and disappointment about his existence.

        •  IMO, kids usually come to (0+ / 0-)

a gentle understanding of the truth regarding Santa, long before anyone tells them---except of course in the case of naughty girls like delphine. :)

Particularly these days, the whole thing is harder to sell past the age of 5 or 6.  But even light years ago, when I was young, I remember it just slowly came to me that it wasn't true, wasn't possible, a part of growing up and getting smarter.  I knew before I told my parents I knew, was eager to keep the myth alive.  Don't think that's unusual.

And I wouldn't give up those magical years of believing for anything. My mother used to make my dad get up on the roof and run a rake over it.  She'd wake us up so we could "hear Santa."

I don't know what I looked like during these midnight visits from my Mother and "Santa," but I'll never forget my little brother's face who was in the twin bed across from mine.

Eyes the size of saucers, and both his dimples deep enough to dive into, so wide and happy was his smile.
