  •  Is DUI a felony in VA? (5+ / 0-)

This indecent should absolutely cost him is job and if he's convicted in court and doesn't resign, the Senate should take matters into their own hands and throw him out.

His hypocrisy about drinking is amusing but a DUI isn't. He easily could have killed someone. This would have been a much funnier incident if he was busted doing some other otherwise harmless offense that people sometimes do when their hammered. Like public urination or something like that.

    •  I would guess so as it is called Felony Drunk (1+ / 0-)

Driving in many states but often the penalty for the first offense is mostly fines and revocation of driving license for a year and sometimes and in some states, community service and counseling.

In PA, I believe court ordered counseling or AA meetings which probation monitors the attendance are also penalties but not all states do this first offense.

      •  I don't think it's an actual felony (0+ / 0-)

But I live in Virginia and there no way it's a $250's gonna cost w whole lot more, plus this is Alexandria and all the electeds and most judges are of the democratic persuasion

        •  I hope you don't mean that (1+ / 0-)

The political persuasion of the electeds and judges should have absolutely no impact on his penalty.  Nor should his status as a US Senator.  Whatever the standard penalty for a first time offender with that blood alcohol level may be should be the penalty he receives.  The political consequences, if any, are up to the Republican party and the voters of Idaho. Or likely nothing

    •  No, first time DUI in va is NOT a felony (5+ / 0-)

A third DUI conviction in va is a felony, but not the first or second. Crappo will have to pay probably around a $300 fine.  He won't have to do any jail time because his BAC was under 0.15. His license will be suspended IN VIRGINIA ONLY because I imagine he has an Idaho drivers license. he will have to take virginia's alcohol safety class for ten weeks and be on unsupervised probation for a year.

I got a DUI in Alexandria, va, in august so I unfortunately know from experience.
