  •  Well at least you're making my point for me (6+ / 0-)

Republicans are afraid of minorities.  Many progressives seem to be afraid of southerners with guns.

I'm frankly afraid of ANYONE pointing a gun at me.  It's a perfectly rational fear.  But if I have to rank threats (and I hate doing it because it's a terrible problem-solving technique whichs plays directly into the hands of the Grover Norquist type) I'd place the 1% as more of a threat to the nation as a whole than white southerners in general.

Without the Koch brothers and Fox News the Tea Parties (consistiing largely of white southerners) would've been a complete washout.

0.01%, not the 1%. The 1% is everyone who drives a Mercedes or stays at a nice hotel. Lots of them are nice people, and lots of them are liberal Democrats. Most are unarmed.

The 1% is nothing more than an arbitrary number used to indicate which segment of the population various policies aid.  I seldom use it unless I'm talking to other progressives.

Put more accurately I'm more concerned about the concentration of wealth in this country than I am about the prospects of being shot by some enraged southern right winger.

That isn't to say that we shouldn't be concerned wtih the armed right wing, southern or otherwise.  It's that the Koch Brothers and Sheldon Adelson are having more of an affect on most people's lives than the extremes of southern politics.

Once again, I object to ranking threats.  Since I'm an old white southern male, though, forgive me if I'm not particularly frightened of old, white, southern males as a general group.
