but New York City is one of the wealthiest districts if not THE wealthiest district on this continent.  It's their taxes -- the extremely modest taxes we permit our government to impose on the likes of David Koch and Jamie Dimon -- that allow the poorer farmers of Alabama and Georgia to pay less than their per-capita fair share to fund our global wars of oppression, etc.  If the lords of New York actual WANT to pay for their own cleanup, there's no reason on earth why they couldn't fund it out of their own pockets.

The problem being of course that we know they don't intend and wouldn't dream of paying to rebuild the homes of the poor and working-class, those who sweep their streets and serve the coffees at Starbucks and provide the many underpaid services that allow the Koch Brothers to live like Masters Of The Universe.  Homes for the untidy?  Completely unnecessary.  Excess population and all that.  Too bad the Ghosts of Past, Present, and Future have other places to haunt.  The Koch brothers could certainly use their attention.
