    "Creating your own reality" is great if things are going well.  You can say, "Look at the wonderful reality I've created for myself!" and pat yourself on the back.

    But I happen to think that the Buddha was right when he posited the first Great Truth as, "To live is to suffer."  You will get sick/laid off/dumped/screwed over/tricked/scapegoated in this life.  Did you create those realities for yourself?  Sometimes shit just happens and it has nothing to do with anything we did or said or thought.

    We do create our own inner realities.  We do control the way we react to circumstances, but it's somewhat dangerous to buy the whole, "Create your own reality" thing wholesale because you might end up taking too much credit for your success or too much blame for your failure.
