  •  The Root Tragedy is That It's Not About Country. (11+ / 0-)

If the primary questions of much of our leadership were questions about national interest, even the most far-right wingers would have some significantly different policies. We still wouldn't like them, but at least they would line up with some identifiable vision of the country.

But national or societal interest is not their main concern, and so they don't govern toward that end.

Conservative leadership is interested only in markets and opportunity for their globally-based oligarchy. They realize that there's no threat of invasion or conquest, and so between their offshore and onshore assets, the welfare of the nation and society is of no consequence to them.

People hungry, 80% of the economy stagnant, periodic mass murders and culture based terrorism, infrastructure crumbling. It doesn't matter. They don't need need better.

Our fallacy is repeated in this diary in the expression "other countries." It should say "countries" because in more and more ways, we're less and less a country ourselves, more just a location where parts of markets operate.

We are called to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for victims of our nation and for those it calls enemy.... --ML King "Beyond Vietnam"
