  •  As long as we replace a majority of that (3+ / 0-)

spending with infrastructure spending.  Because unless we do we will see thousands, if not millions, of solid middle class manufacturing jobs disappear.

I always see "just cut defense spending" on this site without people proposing what absolutely needs to the second part of that equation which is  "and replace a large percentage of it with infrastructure spending."  Without that second half  what will happen is a lot of good middle class jobs will disappear.

On the other hand if we include that second half (and we need to) then cutting and replacing defense spending is not near the deficit control measure that some on here think it will be.

like in every congressional district we have our defense contractors. So the one I'm thinking of supplies joy sticks, actuators, microphones, ear phones and head sets for communications....Pretty high tech and rugged electronics used in tanks, planes, helicopters, ships. That kind of stuff. The owner has done very well. Has spiffed up a 120 year plant to like new and funded my friend and yours...Joe Walsh.
He's a RWinger (had Rick Perry over to his plant for a private $1000 breakfast during the REP primaries) and gets on the radio from time to time to rant about "GOVERNMENT SPENDING". I have no idea what percentage of his business comes from DOD but guaranteed he will threaten AND lay off a lot of his $14-$22 hour employees if DOD cuts come.

Simple economic blackmail. Another "Cliff" we should just jump over.
