  •  A Disposition to be Rich by Geoffrey Ward (4+ / 0-)

I didn't warm up to the title, but it was on the NYT 100 and other lists. Pretty good to great reviews. I'm 1/3 into it.  It is becoming a character study of parents (something like today's fundamentalist Christians) and their amoral son.

Some of the best books I read in 2012 came from this site and include:

    Empire of the Summer Moon
    The Cellist of Sarajevo
    Prague Winter
    Ayn Rand Nation

A few other good books I read this year, not found through R&BL

Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea
And So it Goes. Kurt Vonnegut: A Life
We Meant Well: How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People
