    though segregation was dictated by law in parts of the South.  This is a cultural question that may not be easily answerable, but if such laws did not exist in those days, what percentage of white Southern business owners would have accepted an integrated clientele?  And would their businesses have prospered?

        also used to justify not giving women the right to vote in that "If women voted differently than their husband it would break up their marriage and if women voted the same as their husband ... well then why the need to give women the right to vote".

        So in the angry old white man's world:

        If a black person and white person marry, it destroys marriage.

        If a person of the same sex as another person marries that person, it destroys marriage.

        If a women votes, it destroys marriage.
