  •  Denied permission, but he brought in on anyway... (11+ / 0-)
Gwendolyn Crump,   director of the Office of Communications  for the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, told ABC News, “NBC contacted MPD inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment. NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied. This matter is currently being investigated.”
Well, he certainly can't claim ignorance, though that's never a valid excuse anyway.

They could have used a prop after they were denied permission to use a real one.  We will have to see what comes of the investigation.

      •  If it was a prop, ... (0+ / 0-)

we'd have heard so by now as Gregory protested his innocence.  He may try to claim it was a prop, but without an invoice from a prop company or some such, he'll just make things worse for himself.  Meanwhile, I'm betting a producer or two has already been blamed and fired for letting him believe it was okay.

    •  why didn't he just ask the police to bring one by? (0+ / 0-)

      Oh, David Gregory...sorry.

    •  I don't know why they asked, (0+ / 0-)

but they did the right thing by bringing it on air.  Made for a better interview.  The DC police should recognize the error of their initial denial by dropping this waste of my money.

      Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.

      •  Dollars to doughnuts, ... (0+ / 0-)

a picture would have been FAR easier to obtain and would have made the point just as well.  Besides, who knows?  It may turn out that the clip Gregory showed was one he owned.  It came from somewhere.
