    Electing the younger politician is a good move for Hawaii in the long run.  It will take time, but this sets up a solid progressive to be a future lion of the Senate.

      that Hanabusa is close friends with Congressman Cicilline. They also have the closest voting record. Not exactly a homophobe. So lets correct that statement.

      Hanabusa played an important role in advancing the civil unions bill in the state senate, then helped stall it out so it did not pass that year. Then, the following year, quickly passed the bill out.

      Her stalling tactics did not stem from "homophobia" but from discontent within her leadership coalition in the Senate (Senator Donna Kim, who IS a "homophobe" was threatening to pull out of the coalition. Secondly, Hanabusa was starting to position herself for her congressional run, so she started to play it "safe."

      Some in the Hawaii LGBT community are strong advocates for Hanabusa, some are more hostile. It is more complicated than "homophobe" versus "homophile."
