is all you care about, then that's what you should address.

If the remaining 99% matters you might want to address who's doing that.

    •  Are you saying that white men only perpetrate (0+ / 0-)

      1% of gun violence?

The revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.

      •  No, but spree-killings are less than 1% of the (4+ / 0-)

gun murders in this country and with all of our media attention on AR-15's, large magazines, etc. that's clearly what we're trying to do. And maybe, if we're lucky, we'll prevent another Sandy Hook or Aurora. But it won't amount to much of anything in reducing the gun deaths in America. Really tackling that problem will require a much broader solution and one that can't ignore the problems of class and race in this society.

To me progress is not so much a goal as it is a process and I believe it will not follow a straight course. Remember, the drops of water that form the river may not take the shortest path but they will still reach the ocean.

And have pointed it out a great many times.  The push to ban assault rifles is a consequence of white privilege, pure and simple, in my mind.

The post you responded to was an attempt to get clarification from the other poster about what exactly he means when he says we need to look at the race of the perpetrators.

Who is being "privileged" when we don't name the killers?
That's headed down the racism rabbit hole right there, but in real nice language.

          •  I completely agree with your observation (1+ / 0-)

on that point ... and the implicit suggestion was that we should therefore restrict firearms to the "class" of people who are causing it -- the black and underprivileged.

Apart from being unconstitutional on its face, it also ignores the economic and other drivers of the far more prevalent and problematic urban gun violence.
