    Supposedly they had research about how that was going to boost turnout.  Too bad their research didn't pick up on how  violated that made the recipients feel -- especially those who weren't aware that their voting or not-voting was a matter of public record.  Personally, having worked with the voter database for recall purposes, I DID know it was public record, and felt "outed" even so.

      database when you contribute to a political candidate, too. I wish I'd known so I could have used my husband's business address. It's creepy to have my name and address right out there on the internet. We used to use an unlisted phone number to keep our home address private.
