    for the three candidates the HDP had to submit to Abercrombie. He wasn't bound by the tallies, but he evidently took them into consideration.

    I'm assuming all three are liberal democrats, so I strongly don't give a shit.

      State law required Abercrombie to choose one of the three persons whose names were given to him by the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party of Hawaii.  The list was mandatory, not advisory.

      Hanabusa is more centrist than Schatz or Abercrombie or Hirono.  For example, she supported the three misnamed "Free Trade Agreements" with South Korea, Panama and Colombia.  Hirono opposed them.

      In the primary this year, Hanabusa got only 76% of the vote, with 14% going to a no-name who didn't campaign, and 9% cast blank ballots.  She's not popular.
