I'm peeved that the Rightous Right has co-opted the term "Christian."  Some will say that Roman Catholics aren't Christians.  As one who is very weak on theology, it seems to me that any one who believes in the divinity of Jesus is a Christian...and following Jesus' teachings is probably a requirement, also.  That's where the Righteous Right too often falls short.

The books by Frank Schaeffer are very helpful to understanding this movement.

a personal language in which words mean just what they intend them to mean. If Mammonites want to call themselves Christians, if Dominionists who fall down and worship the Devil in exchange for a false hope of dominion over the nations of the world want to call themselves Christians, if racists, bigots, and misogynists want to call themselves Christians, you can't stop them.

It is true that you can call them by more accurate names, as I did above, but it is hard to have a public discussion in those terms. Perhaps you and I can agree on something like "they who call themselves Christians" or "self-proclaimed Christians" or just the "Religious Right", which is the more usual term.

Frank Schaeffer is a wonderful and very important man, a true convert from the Religious Right which his father and he helped to build up to something much more like Christianity.

      America—We built that!
