  •  Twenty-round magazines? (0+ / 0-)

    Fifteen for handguns?

    What the hell for, exactly?

    •  My proposal wasn't for "my ilk" of shooters (5+ / 0-)

but for the AR/AK folks who I'm encouraging to lower the load by one third.

If that's met with "no fucking way" then I put them in the Zealot bin.

The gun I was given access to was a 7.62 NATO/.308 Winchester Springfield M1A, with scope.  a/k/a an M21 rifle.
The County issued a 10 round magazine, which interfered less with sandbagged use than a 20-rounder.
So my "gut" is to go to 10 rounds for rifle, but that's a 2/3s reduction from 30.
I therefore expect persons with existing 30 rounders will require a "grandfather clause".
      I don't want that, I want a trade-in.

So... I will hold-fast for the original 20 round M-16 capacity of the 1960s.
Thirty-plus is a non-starter.  For me, for a lot of civilians.

My experience as a person who's been shot-at, and shot-by a handgun, is it's the first 5 or 6 rounds that have you taken by surprise.  The first 2-3 are "what's that, firecrackers?" disbelief.  By number five you're on "oh shit, no... really? Fuck."
After number 6, it's all just numbers, as I'm working on a solution.
30 handgun rounds however, is over-the-top.

My full answer is:  Your handgun magazine needs to fit inside your firearm.
No 20 or 30 round extended magazine, no magazine-adapter to permit a larger magazine.
If 12 rounds fit (SIG P-226 in .40 cal) within the gun, then 12 rounds is the maximum for that gun's magazine.

If someone wants to make a 3 ft tall, 250 round handgun?
      Great.  15 rounds maximum.

      •  oh, can I have an exception? I really covet (3+ / 0-)

a 9-round .22LR revolver ... and yes, I'm old-school enough to think it ought to shoot either DA or SA. I prefer SA for the lighter trigger and the (slightly) shorter recovery time between rounds, but that's just me. You know how people explain HDW with the sound of a shotgun racking?

The sound of a pistol cocking is every bit as distinctive.
