    of the war was up north. Three days to take Kuwait doesn't equal two days to take Baghdad. I get your point though. Knowing what we know now, it might have been no worse to fight the war then. But Bush Sr. never envisioned what his idiot son would do in the thrall of Cheney the Dick.

      And, unlike his idiot son, he knew it would be a clusterfuck:

      Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the U.N.'s mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the U.S. could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land.

        envisioned what his son would do. George Sr. knew the Middle East well, having been head of the CIA and close to the Saudi royal family. He did the right thing for the right reasons. Idiot Jr. destroyed his legacy.
