phrased it yesterday in Sen. Boxer meeting NRA (more than) halfway?

Yes, what we should do is spend Federal dollars to put soldiers trained for combat on battlefields around the world in our nation's kindergarten classrooms.  I don't know about you, but I've always imagined my children happily playing dodgeball in the shadow of camouflaged, kevlar wearing and helmeted soldiers carrying M-16s.

Truly, what America wants for our children is for them to go to school in an armed camp, with someone carrying an automatic weapon watching them as they do PE.

that being scared more of the time also makes people more conservative.  And that's not snark.

The point of this proposal is to get it to happen. Consider consequences:

      1. Governor Wingnut (R) of Missabama declares a school safety crisis.

      2. Gov. Wingnut's response invokes the Boxer School War Act of 2013.

      3. National Guard troops are deployed to 1,548 schools. They look like the Guardsmen we see every day at Penn Station, Port Authority (the NYC bus station on 8th Avenue), and Grand Central. Expect to see a squad of troops at each school. Parents are urged to be so very happy that their offspring are going to be safe from bullets fired by Librul-permissive-"impenetrable" perverts.

      4. A total of 12,000 Guardsmen are assigned. Yes, the Guardsmen carry fully automatic-fire machine guns, pistols and knives. No grenades.

      5. After about a week people notice that the troops aren't doing much. They stand around. They chat in small groups. The Guardsmen are not allowed to do search & detain actions. 0.04% are trained for police work.  It's "Mall Cop" with no plot.

      6. After two weeks the younger male Guardsmen are getting hit on by high school girls, who think sexy men in uniforms are way cool compared to their pimple-faced classmates. Missabama's television ad campaign extolling heroic Guardsmen helps this along.  (406 pregnancies ensue.)

      7. Then the George W. Bush Middle School at Patchiboola, MB, suffers a deadly pre-Thanksgiving attack. Student XXXX from the high school goes off meds and kicks into the hallucinations of adult-onset paranoid schizophrenia. He imagines that the Guardsmen are giant insects and uses a concealed Bushmaster to launch an attack on 5 of them from 20 yards range. In 3 seconds Student XXXX hits all five Guardsmen before they can react; he executes his now-writhing"insects" with bullets to their heads and then walks calmly into the school auditorium and shoots another 147 panicking 12- to 14-year olds.

XXXX leaves a note describing his response to seeing guns on campus day after day. He describes his hallucinations, the "insects," and what his "irresistible" voices were telling him.

      O.K., it's not cool.

Do expect something like this to pump up a "Fuck the 2nd Amendment" movement.

One GOPer Gov. Wingnut falls for it and off to the races.

Expect to see huge unintended side-effects from putting armed soldiers into basically non-violent environments. (In this example: 71 live births, paternity test verified, along with triggering major violence. Give it 10 years and reality would be worse.)

Barbara's big point: the effectiveness of our Well Regulated Militia in 2013 relies in no way whatsoever on the 2nd Amendment. Meanwhile the consequences of loving guns and this 2nd Amendment start with 30,000 deaths a year.

Adopting the LaRouche/LaPierre plan of putting armed guards into schools ??? Puts everything up close and personal.
