At the beginning of the 20th century America was spooling up its development of infrastructure with expanding telephone networks and electrical grids, more paved highways, improved and safer railroad equipment and operations, newly-instituted health departments --
Ten years into the 21st century we're seeing our infrastructure decaying, from highways and bridges to locks systems on our waterways to overloaded and ill-connected electrical grids.
It will take an enormous amount of money, materials, labor, will and sacrifice to reverse this trend. I just don't see that happening anytime soon.

    •  Probably the case, I agree (0+ / 0-)

... and so sad given the incredible potential that is still there in terms of technological and scientific capacity, if only there were govenments that worked even halfway effectively. Twenty years ago that might have at least some of the time included Republican governments in some cases. Now they block any government from functioning.

We have only just begun and none too soon.
