I refuse to swallow the argument that there are no Democrats who are qualified for this job.

I am fucking sick and tired of gestures toward "bipartisanship" that are always answered with the same old GOP obstructionism and evil.  (Yes, evil.  Just watch what they do to the entire country when the debt ceiliing must be approved again.)

The trick to rooting out the evil is weeding out the GOP.  Cattle ranchers don't plant jimsonweed in their pastures in the hopes Mother Nature will be "bipartisan" and steer their cattle away from it.

    Send Chuck Hegel a Fuck-You-Gram.

Or just a list that might accept it if pressured hard enough?

Chuck Hagel is a person out of time.  Had he been born ten years later, he'd be solidly a democrat in the Rahm/Obama mold.  My sense is that Obama feels a political kinship with not crazy republic and who were ousted from politics.

That said, the problem is what do we do with Obama, not Hagel.  Why wouldn't he nominate Wes Clarke?

"I'm a Republican from the 80s". - The most "liberal" president in my lifetime.
