When did I say anything about Spengler staying in NY to buy a weapon? And what prevents him from going to another state to buy a weapon? And even if I had mentioned NY - what would that have to do with illegal sales at guns shows in NY?

and if they don't, they'll just tell you you don't know what you're talking about.

Just remember that NRA members lost more than anyone has every lost in any war ever. At least that's what the spokesman for the organization said about the re-election of the President. And they certainly aren't willing to do anything about the paranoid, hateful nonsense emanating from the leadership of their organization. They seem perfectly happy with the NRA's paranoid screeds that have helped drive gun/ammo sales over the last four years and inculcated an atmosphere of paranoia. Expect one of them to pop in and tell me that NRA leadership isn't one of the major contributing factors to the parade of bullshit directed at President Obama.

If they want to defend an organization with the likes of Grover Norquist, Ted Nugent, John Bolton, Chuck Norris and a virtual who's who of lunatic rightwingers at the top--frankly, I have no interest in finding common cause with them. Until NRA members who come to this site are willing to stand up and call out that lot of cretinous, hateful rightwingers, I'm not sure why we're wasting our breath engaging them. Everything they have to say, as far as I'm concerned, is poisoned by that association.

Is only a couple of hours from Pennsylvania in one direction, and a somewhat longer distance from Vermont.  And Vermont is the place where, as someone pointed out to me on Facebook, has virtually no restrictions on the purchase or sale of firearms, including no need for a license.   So whether or not New York has strict gun laws means squat as long as someone determined to get a gun can drive to Vermont or another state that doesn't.

What it all boils down to is that we need a NATIONAL LAW mandating background checks on ALL firearms purchases, we need NATIONAL enforcement, and we need a NATIONAL ban on military/police-grade weapons in private hands.  America's gun policy is a national disgrace, and I am sick unto death of people who bleat about their right to own a goddamn Glock or a Bushmaster or a Kalashnikov because they're so goddamn paranoid.

Pave Pusher provided a link to the NY State law that says you can't legally purchase at a gun show without a federal background check. I had a suspicion that was the case as it's the same where I live.

You can accept his very good link to the law or you can post some bogus youtube of a supposed incident to the contrary or do whatever you want, but swearing at people and calling them offending name is not so great. If you can't discuss as an adult please go elsewhere. Thank You.

    •  Maybe I just live in a more responsible area (0+ / 0-)

Back when I was visiting ranges, the for-sale ads on the bulletin boards said they'd only sell to people with pistol permits, which means the buyer had passed a background check.

      •  My pistol permit is nearly 40 years old. (1+ / 0-)

Are you saying or suggesting you are willing to bet nothing has changed in my experience or behavior (or fitness for gun ownership) over all those years?
