...we now have a huge catalog of it (YouTube and others) but it's so overwhelming that people stick to what they know.

I more or less stalled out on discovering new music 10-15 years ago.  Radio, which had been my medium for finding new things, had become almost completely worthless.  I've been fortunate enough to live in places with great college stations since that time but there the problem is that I typically only hear a song once and then, because I'm older and busy, I forget it before I have a chance to look it up.

I'd like to use the internet to find more good music but I don't really know where to start.  I find that if I use something like Pandora and I plug in an old song I tend to get other old songs rather than something new with a similar sensibility.

what time and where in the playlist so I can look at the online playlist later but usually forget.

College radio is the best because it is open to old opinionated people like me (I helped on a show for a few years) and some serious collectors as well as younger people following their muse and sharing it.

Playlists online at the radio station, an odd but sometimes useful resource.

        ...and I certainly appreciate it.

To do the series and the site, I just browse Youtube and the web with search terms such as opera, classical, etc. I have found gems that are off beat (a good example is The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain PLS. check this out) and famous folks in their field that I was not that familiar with (ie, Bill Monroe). All in all, it's great fun. I am thrilled that some other folks like it.

Please visit The Daily Music Break for some good music.
