    was often covered in newspapers and magazines.  For your mother to know about coffee grounds, she would only have to read something or talked with a neighbor that read something about it.

    Gardening doesn't have the importance now as it did back when your mom was younger.   Adding coffee grounds would have been common knowledge then.

      this coffee grounds thing; they were probably pretty much the same age.

      As above, when what you grow, your own self, is a much larger percentage of what you eat, than it is nowadays, you're likely to have a lot more information at your fingertips, even if you can't exactly recall where it all came from originally.

      "real" work : a job where you wash your hands BEFORE you use the bathroom...
