  •  Yes, the intent to use it for violence. (0+ / 0-)

And almost no one legally owning in the US intends to use their firearms for any illegal activity.

    •  And the types of guns I'm talking about (0+ / 0-)

are not actually necessary for any legal use of a firearm.  Pretty sure I can defend myself and hunt without 60 rounds per minute.

But that's just me I guess.

    •  Hmmm. (0+ / 0-)

So what is the reason for collecting semiautos of no particular antique or aesthetic values?  How about the high capacity magazines to go with them?  What do those add to the collection?

If you can't tell this from this and other comments of mine, I'm calling bullshit on the whole collecting thing...at least as it supposedly applies to ARs, Bushmasters, Glocks, etc and the high cap magazines.

      •  No aesthetic value? (0+ / 0-)

Just because you don't appreciate the superior craftsmanship of a Daniel Defense or Knights Armament AR-15 does not mean that all are ignorant to it's beauty. The fit an finish of a well made firearm, of any type, will have those who appreciate it.

That statement also applied to Nancy Lanza.  Yet, her weapons made lots of deadly illegal activity possible.

      •  And she was an outlier, not systematic of a trend. (0+ / 0-)

Bad things will happen to good people. Grabbing guns is not an option.

        •  Outlier? (0+ / 0-)

In virtually all recent mass shootings, the firearms were purchased legally.

Damn, that reasoning could be used to avoid progress on nearly ANY issue of public safety.....or the social safety net.  Please don't run for office.

          •  Not even close. (0+ / 0-)

In Aurora, the mental illness had not been diagnosed, but would have prevented purchase if it had. That's a failure of medicine, not of gun laws.

In V Tech, Cho should have been prevented because of his mental illness, but NICS hadn't been informed of his condition. A failure of communication that has since been rectified by law.

In Newtown, the killer stole the weapons used.

In Upstate New York, the killer used a straw purchase, which is very illegal.
