public space.  A carry / conceal permit usually requires training, just like drivers ed is required for driving.

    •  I agree with you (0+ / 0-)

driver ed & testing is required for driving a car and guns not so much for driving a car .

If your point was driver ed and testing was what brought down the number of dead / passenger miles traveled , I'll say you really should look into what has really been going on .

      •  what do you mean? (0+ / 0-)

Here in CA, the challenges for getting a license compared to what was in place when I got mine at 16 are extremely significant, let alone the rules of driving for anyone under 18.

It was unheard of in CA in my day (!) to not get your license at 16. That was a normal rite of passage. Now, I know a LOT of kids who still aren't driving at 18.

Things have changed here. I don't know how it is elsewhere.

Put the kids of 50 years ago in todays cars and watch the death and injury rates drop .

Run the cars from 50 years ago on todays roads with modern roadway safety equipment and watch the death and injury rates drop .

Run todays cars on the roads from 50 years ago unimproved and watch the death and injury rates go up .

The training of kids is a little better
The cars are very much better
          The roads are better
The roadway safety equipment is better

The latest safety equipment that I've seen is
air bags on the outside of the car for people struck by cars .

This team coordination of designers and engineers does not mean, however, that engineers’ quest for automotive technology to improve safety, efficiency, and performance is now given equal importance to designers’ concerns for aesthetics to provide meaning and identity. On the contrary, the contemporary priority placed on lifestyle diversity and individuality by the entire industry indicates that the quest to infuse automobiles with cultural meaning that was once confined to the stylist’s studio has now infiltrated the engineer’s laboratory as well. Engineers spend most of their time rearranging old technologies into new and different product packages to fit the fantasies of America’s fragmented lifestyle enclaves. Considerably less time is spent pioneering new technologies of safety and efficient propulsion.

Not exactly the expert I would go to , but hey , any port in a storm eh ?

Do you know why designers build smooth blunt aerodynamically compromised front ends on cars today ?

Do you know why the windowsill line has been going up ?
