    for getting a lot of these onerous laws passed during the 80's and 90's, all in the name of "protecting homeschooling freedoms."  There is quite a history of the conflict between the religious fundamentalist wing of homeschooling and the rest of the homeschooling community, I think much available at  Home Education Magazine online.

      H$LDA/NCHE, Christian Life Workshops, The Teaching Home, and NHERI  are the "Four Pillars" referred to in these papers.  I think there was a monograph called The Four Pillars of Homeschooling at one time but I can't find it now.  It outlined much of what is in the Homeschooling Freedoms At Risk series and discussed how those four groups had coordinated and worked to define and control homeschooling.
