I used to visit AZ and even considered moving there at one point.
    Now, I go elsewhere.
AZ is just not a place I wish to visit anymore (and thank god, I didn't move there).

I think, therefore I am........................... Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose....AKA Engine Nighthawk - don't even ask!

and refused to go through the bodyscan at the airport.

More security theater: and you get a heaping help of radiation, with it!

Probably because I'm a little old lady, and was lecturing the TSA on the misuse of medical equipment with radiation, they didn't do a full cavity search, but just a pat down.

Won't be back in AZ anytime soon.

going from upstate NY to CA, we of course had to deal with TSA to get on the plane.

I have been dealing with a nasty infection on/in my leg for most of the year.  It has been wrapped up with specialty bandages and is much better now  (:-) ).   However, knowing I was going on planes, the NP who has been very helpful, gave me a letter stating what the specialty bandage was impregnated with and requesting it not be removed due to the need for it to be on during the airplane flight.

I have refused to go through the body scanners too, in part over the security theater, but mainly due to the radiation.

Upon seeing the letterhead from the major hospital involved, TSA didn't even read the letter.  The female who examined me was decent, and even considerate of the leg area in her pat down.  I thanked her.

I am also a 'little old lady,' who thanks to Danish hair which has not turned white at all, looks 10 yrs younger than I am.  But I don't start out by giving the agent a hard time about the procedures.  Wrong person.  I just quietly state my right to be 'patted,' agree to the metal wanding, and say I will be patted in public, so if there is any funny business, it will be observed.

In CA we got on a cruise.  As stated here before, thanks to the metal wanding on boats, I feel a lot safer there than in AZ.  Luggage going onto boats is also Xrayed.  However, the cruise lines are equally concerned with booze getting aboard (they want to sell you theirs at a higher price!) and are looking for that more than your nail scissors.

    •  I might still visit (0+ / 0-)

I'd just be very careful about who I did business with. I'd try to reward, as much as possible, the non-insane.

Last time I passed through I wasn't as cognizant of my choices, but I managed to stay in one navajo-owned hotel.

Flagstaff to be exact. But not any more. The state is entirely too rad for me and just seems to be getting worse, sadly.

It's such a gorgeous and diverse state, environmentally.

      •  As a child, I spent (0+ / 0-)

hours flipping through Arizona Highways magazines in the school libraries, up to and including high school.  (They must have sent them free to the libraries)

A fine example of good photography and some SW history which was very exotic to my mostly limited New England experience at that point.

Part of the itch to travel as an adult.  Only now we don't feel we can go to some places.
