That he could open carry without taking a mandatory safety class, or that the class was merely perfunctory, or that he just decided that gun safety rules are optional and don't apply to him?

For people who say they carry in order to stop the bad guys, I have some questions. You spend time at a gun range at least every two weeks, right?  So your muscle memory and accuracy are at top form.  And you've had training so that you keep a level head under stressful & physically demanding situations? And you're prepared to take someone's life?  Even if that might be an innocent person (richochet, bullet goes through bad guy and keeps going, or, hey, the bad guy ducks or the bad guy is really the person who just disarmed the shooter, as in the Tuscon shooting)? And if you do accidentally kill an innocent person, you're willing to do the time for manslaughter (involuntary if you're lucky)?

ABC did a documentary after the Virginia tech shooting, I think it was, that was an eye opener for those who participated as well as for the audience.  The people doing the documentary came at it from a scientific POV not a pro- or anti- stance. I thought at the time that watching the program should be required for any who want to carry a gun.

    Thanks for the great diary.
