is Select Comfort Corporation (SCSS).  I happen to be a shareholder and it's a good company, by and large.  With nearly 400 retail stores, most of its 2,200 employees are retail workers.  All of these people depend on the sales of SleepNumber products for their livelihood.  I am not interested in punishing these workers for the antics of some radio asshole nor for the indifferent decisions of their bone-headed advertising department.

HOWEVER, it makes all the sense in the world to put pressure on management and make them aware that associating with hate radio is absolutely destructive to their corporate and product image.  In my opinion, such association reflects negatively on prospects for future growth and therefore diminishes the value of my investment in the company.

Contact Investor Relations.  Contact the CEO and each of the dozen members of the board.  Voice concerns at shareholder meetings and conferences.  Talk to store managers so the message is transmitted bottom to top.

I don't need a new mattress, so boycotting mattress products is meaningless coming from me.  Yet perhaps there are other ways to make a difference.

Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.
