  •  Wasn't it Henry Kissinger who noted (8+ / 0-)

The military coup in Chile was necessary because of the irresponsibility of its citizens?  About a democratically elected government!

Anyone who thinks the oligarchy is beyond this attitude here in the States is a willful child--as is anyone who thinks the leaders of the Democratic party would risk their careers to stop it.

about the possibility of the US elite instigating a coup to overthrow themselves.

      •  That's not my point (0+ / 0-)

I was referring to the elite attitude that people can't be allowed to make democratic decisions about how to run their own country.  The elite is not overthrowing itself, it's overthrowing what's left of our democracy, a process former IMF chief economist Simon Johnson referred to, accurately I think, as The Quiet Coup.

The coup is against us, not themselves.

Unless your purpose what just a snappy retort, regardless of the point?
