Here's the deal. I try to avoid all of the handwringing and premature angst while negotiations are in progress over this manufactured crisis. Because the obstruction that President Obama has been forced to handle is so unprecedented and yet so deliberately ignored by the MSM (with their f*'ing obsession with false equivalency and all), I'm realistic enough to know that the final deal is probably going to make me angry and upset for the reasons I listed in my initial response.

2013 is beginning rather volatile on twitter too. PBO must know that many won't be happy with this tax policy and will feel that he caved again - deepening the gulf between camps of frustrati and realistrati. How can we tamper with what history will write about this congress, people's perception of and its cultural threads if left to MSM to narrate?

I was writing got lost, which is probably good. Basically, the 112th Congress is going to go down in history as the least productive (in terms of actually doing their, you know, job of governing). Fortunately, I don't think the MSM will be able to rewrite that history.

Besides that, the MSM is becoming increasingly irrelevant. Those who used to regularly watch the tv news or read the newspaper are now able to find news online much more quickly, so the old means of disseminating news are becoming obsolete. And most of the younger population have never developed a habit of paying attention to tv or print news, so they don't need to be weaned off it.

I think we're better off using sites like DKos and social media to try to shape the narrative. That's partly why I'm here--it's too expensive to try to fight the GOP in TX media outlets, so I'm trying to learn how to end-run them.
