    Before a medical x-ray machine can be used, it has to go through a careful design process, be maintained by well-trained technicians, and be continuously monitored for proper operation.

    Even with those precautions there have been disasters.

    Now, compare that to something rushed into service and operated by TSA people, who (anyone got a citation?) supposedly aren't even allowed to have dosimeters.

      there are amazingly common failures of everything after the design process. Plus you have no way of knowing what model is being used on you. It could be an old machine which puts out a lot more radiation than newer machines. the older mammography machines were a much higher dose than newer machines have.
