  •  Yep. (12+ / 0-)

Our policy positions are popular.  The GOP's are not, yet too many people vote Republican hoping that they might act less Republican and more like Democrats after they are elected.  They clearly aren't voting based on policies or ideology.  They are voting based on habit, emotions, or racism.

    •  The rabid, hard core base of the gop is the (10+ / 0-)

religious right, and they have a tendency to cajole, nag, bully, peer-pressure other less rabid Christians to vote gop. I know that's true around here in N. Texas.
I think some of the more sheep-like Catholics probably fell in line behind their bishops this year, as well.
The gop have done a good job leveraging wedge issues and race, but I think that's starting to fail for them. I think we're looking at the beginning of the end on that.
I think we'll have a woman Pres. next time up, too. She will be a Dem. I think this will totally rework the dynamic that is going on now with the gop stoking fear that Obama's going to commence a gigantic give-away to blacks if the gop doesn't obstruct him. They'll have nothing but a war on women to fall back on. That won't work.

You can't make this stuff up.

that they vote for less favorable policies because the unfavorable ones are stable whereas the favorable ones are completely unsustainable.

Take unions. Everything in the narriative tells them that unions are nice but unsustainable. Especially the pensions. They can point to cities going bankrupt and whole countries about to bring down the EU.

or the idea everyone should have a house.. and then they point to the economic collapse..

      You get my point.

Show them that liberal ideas are fiscally sustainable. Although I'm having a hard time believing that we will be with California near bankruptcy and also Detroit. It'll just be more evidence for their narrative.
