Not sure about Tyrones.  It might be around under a different name or something.  Where was it located?

Heck, even bars I haunted a decade ago have vanished or been replaced or renamed.  Just last fall the famous Rye Bar suddenly turned into "The Grotto."  I know that turnover is crazy because running a bar is profitable hell, so most owners make a nest egg and get out of the business after a year or two.

      Starbucks is today.

They moved in the late 80s to the location you now know.  Tyrones burned down in @1982.

The Last Resort was great - Dylan once played there in an impromptu session (I missed it).

I went to high school with the Wilsons (B-52s)

      •  Last Resort is still there :) (0+ / 0-)

Sad that Tyrones burned down - so did the Georgia Theater a few years ago, but that one chose to rebuild.

I remember going to work when the GA Theater fire happened and wondering wtf was going on.  It wasn't until I got to work that I learned that the plume of smoke was the theater.... The rebuilt version is fabulous, and the UGA Law Dems continued the tradition of renting it out on election night for the victory party last November :)

      •  I bartended at the old Uptown (0+ / 0-)

in the mid-80's. we had the sign from Tyrone's on the wall. But Tyrone's was gone before I got there.

It was when the Uptown was a music club, not the bar that came later. Widespread Panic was the house band in those days.
