Personally I think it's sad that there's never been a decent movie made about actual medieval European feudalism.

          •  Probably because it wasn't a "system" as such (1+ / 0-)

It was just something that was cobbled together to fill the vacuum left by the downfall of Rome, and no two places played by exactly the same rules.

There were some commonalities. The guy who could command the largest number of fighters got to be king - which might mean a lot, or nothing at all outside his immediate circle of power. The ones who were the best fighters worked their way up the social scale and became "nobles" with little armies of their own. The ones who had little or nothing looked for the protection of a strongman who wouldn't abuse them too much.

But the rules in England - especially after his Barons ganged up on Bad King John and made him promise not to be so mean - were not the rules in France, and the rules in France were not the rules in Spain, and so on and so forth. (And some places - like Russia - never got quite that organized until every place else had evolved out of feudalism.)

It's rather difficult to make an accurate movie when there are so many inconsistencies.

            If it's
            Not your body,
            Then it's
            Not your choice
            And it's
            None of your damn business!
