    I'm the author of the diary, who is in fact a board-certified neurologist.

    njhoo is commenting, but never made that claim as far as I can see.

    I agree with you completely that doctors always work with the facts as we know them. That's part of the challenge of practicing medicine. It can certainly be difficult in the case of neurology.

    It's a field that is constantly evolving and probably has more chance for change in the coming few decades than most other fields of medicine. It can also be frustrating for patients and neurologist alike, as we still have a lot of diseases that don't have clear cut tests or imaging. Research right now into earlier detection and treatment of dementias, like Alzheimer's, are a great example.
