  •  Another canard that should make people run (5+ / 0-)

to hide their wallets is "while it isn't perfect" , which is usually followed by "we can fix it later".

Clinton and Obama are no more Democrats than Norquist.    Our two party system consists of the bat shit crazy, armed to the teeth,  nihilist Republicans and the cleverly disguised to look like Democrats, moderate/conservative, corporate owned Republicans.    Until we can destroy Clinton's "new kind of Democrat", aka moderate Republicans owned by Wall Street,  there is no party of and for working people, aka middle class.      This is why no one wanted Hillary.   She lost, but we still have their regime running the White House.

What we need is a Democrat in the White House.

    •  Clinton and Obama ARE Democrats (3+ / 0-)

It's time to accept that the Democrats haven't been a progressive, worker oriented party in several decades.
I really don't understand why everyone on this site is ever surprised when Obama doesn't act like a progressive, and the Democrats go along with him.
Both parties are owned by big money, have been for a long time. That won't change until you can run for the House without having to raise several million dollars, or run for president without having to raise a billion or more.

and the only possible explanation for Democrats not continually pushing to the left instead of bending to the right all the time.

We know liberal policies are supported three to one by the citizenry when polled on individual issues, proving money trumps the popular will in America and will until we expunge it forever.

      •  It isn't surprise, it is pure disgust. (1+ / 0-)

I agree that both parties are owned by big money and have been for a very long time.    When Clinton threw the unions and working people under the bus (they have no place else to go) and passed NAFTA and deregulated the banks for Wall Street, the writing was plainly on the wall what he meant by a "new kind" of Democrat.

People are not Democrats simply because they lay claim to the label.   If can declare myself to be Marilyn Monroe or Bill Gates, but it doesn't make it so.    Obama and Clinton do the bidding of Wall Street and the 1% and that makes them Republicans.  They represent the party of the rich, and they don't give a flying f@ck about unions, poor people, or the middle class beyond what they have permission or are required to do in order to  pretend they are still Democratic Party.

Yet here we are raising money, cheering,  and voting for "so called" Democrats when we both agree there aren't any.   If you do what you've always done, you will get what you always got.

        •  My argument with you is simple (0+ / 0-)

Democrats are what Democrats do, period. The fact that todays Democratic party bears little relation to the party of the same name 50 years ago means nothing.
It's an argument about labels. You seem to be equating "real" Democrats with populists or progressives because once upon a time they were. All I'm saying is that they aren't now and haven't been populists or progressives for a long time, but that doesn't make them "not Democrats" it makes them not populists or not progressives. Democrats are nothing more than a power block, a political group, not a philosophical one.
To claim that a politician isn't a "real" Democrat when he or she reflects the mainstream of that party is just nonsense. Of course they are real Democrats, it's simply that real Democrats of 2012 are not the same as real Democrats from 1960.

    •  Exactly. (0+ / 0-)
